The day and the life of Dave and Amanda

Popa Max April 19, 2009

Wow what a crazy week it has been.  It started Tuesday with a phone call from my sister saying that her father-in-law was coming home from the hospital under Hospice care to Wednesday my Mom and I getting a phone call at school that my grandfather was being rushed to the hospital.

Since Tuesday our family has lost two precious family members.  First, my sister’s father-in-law, Carl then my grandfather, Popa, early Thursday morning.  I wasn’t completely shocked to hear about Carl because he had congestive heart failure, but my Popa was a complete shock.  We knew he was in a lot of pain with his back but we had no idea he was in deathly health.

Popa was visiting with his brother, which he hadn’t seen in 3 months and he collapsed onto the floor.  After many test at the hospital we found out he had a ruptured aorta, which killed him immediately.  Once the EMS showed up to his house they were able to revive him after being dead for a good 20 min…crazy I know!  Then, after finding out about the aorta the doctor suggested taking him off the ventilator and blood pressure medicine because there was no use in doing emergency surgery.  The surgery would have been pointless because he never regained contiousness throughout the entire process.

Although I’m going to miss him very much I know he is in a better place and happier being there too.  I lost my grandmother, his wife, three years ago and he has never been the same since.  He has missed her like crazy and never had much of a will to live since.  It makes me smile to know that they are back together again.  I would have loved to see my Nanny’s face when she saw my Popa again.  The last thing I whispered into my Popa’s ear before I left was….”Please tell Nanny, Amanda, Bill, and Carl I love them and I said hello.”  Although he couldn’t hear me or understand me I know his spirit was with him that day.

The funeral was very sweet and Michael Joe did a wonderful job.  I could definitely feel the power of prayer because I had a calm, peace about me during the service, unlike before the service.  I kept telling Dave, “I’m a basket case….how am I ever gonna make it through this funeral?”  He kept reassuring me that I could do it and I did.

I have to brag on the most wonderful fiance in the world.  Ever since Wed. when I called Dave to tell him the news he has not left my side.  He has been there to hear my worries and to listen to me cry.  I don’t know what I would have done without him.  I know my family thinks the same.  He never once complained or batted an eye to help anyone.  He was also there to be a listening ear and buddy to my cousins, which adore him!  I am so thankful my family loves Dave just as much as I do.  It’s such a blessing.  I’m so glad Dave had the chance to meet my Popa.  With only knowing Popa a good 6 months or so he already had a few nicknames for Dave…..fireman Dave, the fire Chief, and Super Dave.  Popa wanted to get him a hat that said “Super Dave” on it.

Until next time….hope you enjoy my rambling…..:)

Our wedding plans up to date April 14, 2009

I have wanted us to have a blog for a while now, but just haven’t taken time time to create one!  I just started my Master’s in Technology and as an assignment we had the choice to create a blog….so I thought….what a great opportunity?  I started this blog to talk about mine and Dave’s life.  It’s hard to remember all the memories and moments that happen day to day so I thought this would help.

As most of you know, Dave proposed on December 26th at the Corey Smith concert.  It was the best day of my life knowing that I would spend the rest of my life with the man of my dreams!!  Since December so much has happened.  We have been wedding planning like crazy for our big day…July 11th!!

As soon as we became engaged I immediately called my old church in Greer.  Well, after much drama and tears with that church we are now getting married at Berea First Baptist in Greenville, SC.   I am so excited to be getting married in a church that loves Dave and I unconditionally and is absolutely beautiful 🙂

Once we booked the church we booked our reception site (the sawmill) and the photographer (john gillespie).  We found John on the Internet and drove to the mountains one night to meet him and absolutely loved his work…check out his website…he is wonderful~!!  Then, on to my favorite part-my dress!!  I spent one day driving around Greenville with the best friend in the world, Jenni.  She patiently watched me try on dress after dress.  I finally found my dress at Dimitra’s and all in the same day I ordered my dress, shoes, and veil.  I really did not want a veil but my Mom and Jenni convinced me this is the only day I will ever wear a veil again.  So, I gave in.  I’m just not a big fan of the way they look, but oh well.  I’m wearing one!  Surprisingly, in the same day I also picked out my bridesmaid dresses with the help of Jenni and Liz.  They are simple and very cute.  I decided to use a granny smith apple green color.  I chose this color because I thought it would look good with pink, green, and white flowers.  I hope my girls like them although I’m sure they will never wear them again….sorry girls!

Then onto on the hardest decision yet….do we buy a new house, do we sell Dave’s, do we get my dad to build us a house, do we buy a used house, on and on and on…..Well after months of looking at houses and land to build a house on we have decided to stay in Dave’s home.  It’s a really cute two br. one bath house in Greenville near Furman.  He bought the house two years ago and it is precious!  We are now in the process of painting the entire inside of the house (which has not been a good experience…..the color i picked for our bedroom turned out teal green!).  I loved the color on the swatch but hate it on the walls…go figure!  Dave said I was just trying to act like a Diva?  What does that mean?? hah!  Next month we are going to start remodeling the bathroom and then the kitchen.  Thank goodness for a dad that works in the construction business b/c  I know nothing about construction projects!!  Most of all I want our house to feel like a home.  I have lots of ideas I want to incorporate into our house.  Most of all I want it to be a place Dave and I can come home to and feel relaxed and at ease!  Just what we need.

As of now, were trying to decide on paint colors, someone to bake our wedding cake, and scheduling shower dates with friends!  OH yea and my bachelorette party which is coming up in May…..the girls are headed to Charlotte….watch out NC!!  Most of all….Charleston watch out….the boys from TR are coming to you…..I would leave 😉
